Descriptions
Titration is a quantitative chemical analysis technique used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution by reacting it with a solution of known concentration. The process involves gradually adding the known solution (called the titrant) to the unknown solution (called the analyte) until a reaction reaches its equivalence point, where the two substances have reacted in a precise ratio.
There are different types of titration, including:
- Acid-Base Titration: Used to determine the concentration of an acid or base using an indicator that changes color at the equivalence point.
- Redox Titration: Involves oxidation-reduction reactions, often using substances like potassium permanganate.
- Complexometric Titration: Used to determine metal ions in a solution, often using EDTA.
- Precipitation Titration: Based on the formation of an insoluble precipitate, such as silver chloride in chloride determination.
Titration is widely used in laboratory and industrial applications, including pharmaceuticals, food science, and environmental analysis. Given your interest in precision instruments and measurement tools, you might find titration fascinating in its role in osmometry and other analytical techniques.
The TitroLine® 7500 KF is a compact, easy-to-use volumetric titrator for water determination according to Karl Fischer (KF) with a typical operating range of 0.1 % - 100 % water. The water determination according to Karl Fisher (KF) is the most selective and precise method for water determination. There is the volumetric and coulometric method. The coulometric method generates the iodine directly in the titration vessel which allows the determination of very low water concentrations. The advantage is also that you do not have to determine the concentration of the titrant. With the volumetric method the iodine is added accurately through a piston burette.
The volumetric method is the more general method suitable for almost all kind of samples. Suitable for chemical, petrochemical, plastic and pharmaceutical as well as the food industry. The samples could be either liquid, solid or gaseous. Besides the selection of the right KF reagents, e.g. a higher temperature and/or the use of a disperser allows to determine the water content in many samples.
The TL 7500 with 5, 10 or 20 ml burette has an exceptional high visibility full color graphic display which allows viewing even at extreme angles. The titration curve, but also other information such as ml, drift in µg/mL and µA-value are clearly displayed on the display.
The three USB, two RS 232 and Ethernet interfaces makes the TL 7500 KF highly communicative. Various USB devices such as printers, barcode readers, keyboards can be connected. Analytical balances, PC and other SI Analytics devices such as the autosampler TW 7200 can be connected via the RS-232 interfaces. The Ethernet interface allows data to be stored on a directly connected USB stick in PDF and CSV format as well as on shared network directories.
The parameters can be customized in each of the up to 50 methods. Through the user/password management, each user can be assigned individual rights. If you need even more methods or want to manage the data on a PC, you can use the TitriSoft PC software to control the TL 7500 KF. The TitriSoft 3.5P (TZ 3572) comply fully with 21 CFR, Part 11.
